Remove a redirect in cPanel when an old forwarding rule is no longer needed or must be replaced. Deleting the rule does not restore website files, change DNS, or remove redirects configured in WordPress or a CDN. Check the intended result before making the change.
The video may use different controls. The current Redirects interface lists saved rules under Current Redirects with a delete action and confirmation.
Before you start
- Record the existing source, destination, redirect type, and path behavior so you can recreate the rule if necessary.
- Confirm the source website has working content, or prepare the replacement redirect. Otherwise visitors may see a default page or an error after removal.
Instructions
Locate the current rule
Open Redirects in cPanel and find Current Redirects. Match the source domain and path, then verify the destination before selecting anything.
Remove only that redirect
Choose Delete for the intended rule. Read the confirmation and confirm deletion. Keep unrelated rules, especially those for other domains on the account.
Replace it if required
cPanel redirect entries are replaced by deleting and adding a rule rather than editing the existing entry. Create the new rule with the intended source and destination.
Test without an old browser result
Use a fresh browser session and open the exact source URL. Check both the root and affected paths, including www variants when the removed rule covered them.
Review other redirect layers
If forwarding continues, check the application's redirect settings, CDN configuration, and the separate Force HTTPS setting. Change only the layer responsible for the unwanted behavior.
Check the result
- The removed rule is no longer listed in Current Redirects.
- The source now shows the intended website or follows the replacement rule without a loop.
Troubleshooting
- The browser still goes to the old destination.
- Permanent redirects can remain cached. Compare a fresh session and review any CDN cache before assuming cPanel failed to save.
- No matching redirect appears in cPanel.
- The rule may belong to the website application, .htaccess, or an external service. Back up configuration before editing; avoid deleting unrelated rewrite rules.
