How to Redirect a Website or Page in cPanel

Redirect a website in cPanel to send visitors from an old address to a new one. You can redirect a domain root or a particular page. If your only goal is to keep the same site on HTTPS, check the domain's Force HTTPS setting instead.

Labels and appearance may differ from the video. Review the saved source, destination, redirect type, and path behavior in your current Redirects screen.

Before you start

• Confirm you control the source website and that the destination is ready for visitors. Save a record of existing rules before changing them.
• Choose whether the move is permanent or temporary. A permanent redirect can be cached, making later changes less immediate for returning visitors.

Instructions

1. Select the rule type

   Open Redirects in cPanel. Choose a 301 permanent redirect for a lasting move, or 302 when the source address should remain temporary.

2. Identify the source

   Select the exact domain. Leave the source path empty for the domain root, or enter the page or directory path without the domain name or protocol.

3. Set the destination

   Enter the full destination address, including https:// and any required path. Check spelling carefully; the destination should already be accessible.

4. Review optional behavior

   Choose the appropriate www handling. Enable Wild Card Redirect only to carry source paths to matching paths on the destination, not to send everything to one unrelated page.

5. Add and inspect

   Save the rule and inspect Current Redirects. Test the source root or page and any www variant covered by the rule in a fresh browser session.

Check the result

• The final browser address matches the intended destination and the page loads successfully.
• Unrelated pages and other hosted domains continue working as expected.

Troubleshooting

WordPress or another application ignores the redirect.

Application rewrite rules may run first. Review its redirect settings and existing rules; do not erase the entire .htaccess file.

Visitors encounter a redirect loop.

Check whether the destination redirects back and whether HTTPS or www rules conflict across cPanel, the application, and a CDN.
