How to Remove a Parked Domain or Alias in cPanel

Remove a domain alias in cPanel when an additional domain should stop sharing your primary website. This removes the hosting entry, not the domain registration. Your primary website files remain, but visitors and email for the removed address may be affected.

Older videos use Parked Domains or Aliases. In current cPanel versions, open Domains and manage the additional domain there.

Before you start

• Confirm the exact alias and its document root in Domains. Do not remove the primary domain or delete the shared website folder.
• Back up any important mail for the alias and arrange its replacement hosting, DNS, or redirect first if the address must remain in use.

Instructions

1. Find the alias

   Open cPanel, then Domains. Locate the additional domain you intend to remove. Check the spelling carefully, particularly when several domains differ only by extension.

2. Review its settings

   Choose Manage beside that domain. Confirm the displayed name and shared document root match the alias. Removing this entry is different from cancelling registration with your registrar.

3. Remove the hosting entry

   Choose Remove Domain and read the confirmation. Confirm removal only for the intended alias. cPanel retains the document directory and its contents.

4. Check remaining connections

   Review DNS at the authoritative provider and any redirects, mail routing, or applications that used the alias. Remove obsolete references or point them to the planned replacement.

Check the result

• The alias no longer appears in the Domains list, while the primary domain remains.
• Open the primary website and test any replacement website or mail arrangement for the removed address.

Troubleshooting

The old website still appears at the alias.

Browser or DNS caches may retain an earlier result. Check the authoritative DNS and test again from a fresh session.

Mailboxes disappear from the cPanel list.

Removing a domain can hide its associated mailbox entries. Avoid deleting mail folders and contact support before changing retained mail data.
