Redirect a subdomain in cPanel when an address such as shop.example.com should send visitors to another website or page. The redirect needs the source subdomain to reach your hosting. It does not create DNS records or move the source website's files.
The video may show Manage Redirection under Subdomains. Current cPanel versions use the Redirects interface to manage the source and destination.
Before you start
- Confirm the source subdomain resolves to this hosting account and that the destination opens correctly.
- Decide whether to redirect every request to one page or preserve paths on a replacement site. Review existing application and CDN redirects first.
Instructions
Open redirect settings
Sign in to cPanel and open Redirects. Choose 301 for a lasting move or 302 for a temporary arrangement that you expect to reverse.
Select the subdomain
Choose the full source subdomain from the domain menu. Leave its source path empty for the root address, or enter a path to redirect only a specific page.
Enter the destination
Provide the complete destination URL, including https://. Check the www setting applies to the source address you intend to redirect; do not assume the parent domain is included.
Choose path handling
Use Wild Card Redirect only when the destination has equivalent paths. For example, an old /products page should exist at the corresponding destination path.
Save and test the rule
Add the redirect and inspect its Current Redirects entry. Test the root and a deeper URL in a fresh browser session to check the resulting destinations.
Check the result
- The subdomain reaches the expected destination with no loop or unexpected missing-page response.
- The parent website and other subdomains continue to use their own normal addresses.
Troubleshooting
- HTTPS displays a warning before redirecting.
- Ensure the source subdomain has a valid certificate. TLS is checked before an HTTPS redirect can be delivered.
- The old rule persists after changes.
- Test outside the existing browser cache and review application or CDN rules. A cached permanent redirect can outlast a cPanel edit.
