Installing WordPress on Managed Hosting, Start to Finish
Managed WordPress hosting from InterProWebHost gives you a platform tuned for WordPress, and getting WordPress itself installed takes about ten minutes. This article takes you from an empty hosting account to a working WordPress site with your first admin login. No technical background needed. If you have not chosen a hosting type yet, Managed WordPress vs Shared Hosting: Which Do You Need will help you decide.
Before you install: two quick checks
First, make sure your domain is pointed at your hosting account. If you just bought the domain or just changed nameservers, give DNS time to propagate. See How to Point Your Domain to InterProWebHost. Second, decide where WordPress should live. Most businesses install it at the domain root, so visitors land on WordPress when they type the domain. Only use a subfolder if you have a specific reason, like keeping an existing site live while you build the new one.
Step 1: Open Softaculous in cPanel
Log in to your client area at interprowebhost.com/store/clientarea.php, open My Services, click your hosting plan, and open cPanel. In the Software section, click Softaculous Apps Installer. Hover over WordPress and click Install.
Step 2: Fill in the setup form
The form looks long but only a few fields matter:
- Choose Protocol: select https:// if your domain already has SSL active. If you are not sure, http:// is fine for now. You can switch to https later once SSL is in place.
- Choose Domain: select your domain from the dropdown.
- In Directory: leave this empty to install at the domain root.
- Site Name: your business name, shown in the browser tab and around the site. Changeable later.
- Admin Username: pick something unique, not “admin.”
- Admin Password: use the generator to create a strong password, and save it in a password manager.
- Admin Email: an address you actually check. WordPress sends password resets and update notices here.
Leave the database settings and advanced options at their defaults. Softaculous handles those correctly on its own.
Step 3: Install and log in
Click Install and wait for the progress bar to finish. Softaculous then shows your site address and admin URL, which is your domain followed by /wp-admin. Open the admin URL, log in with the username and password you chose, and you are looking at the WordPress dashboard. Congratulations, your site exists.
Step 4: Do the first five things
A fresh WordPress install works, but it is not finished. There are five settings every new site should get right before going public: the site title and tagline, the timezone, permalinks, comment settings, and deleting the sample content. They take five minutes and they matter. See The First 5 Settings to Change After Installing WordPress and do them now, while the site is new.
What managed hosting handles for you
On managed WordPress hosting, the platform layer is looked after: server level caching, PHP updates, and a WordPress friendly environment. You still own your content, your plugins, your theme choice, and your backups strategy. Think of it as a well maintained building. We keep the structure sound. You decide how to furnish it.
Your first login checklist
When you first reach the WordPress dashboard, do these three things before anything else. First, confirm you can log out and log back in with your credentials, so you know they work. Second, check that your site loads at your domain in a private browser window, which confirms the install is publicly reachable. Third, save your admin URL and credentials in a password manager right now, while they are fresh. Lost admin credentials are one of the most common support requests we see, and they are entirely preventable.
Still stuck? Open a support ticket and tell us your domain and where the install got stuck. We will get WordPress running for you.
