Reset the mailbox password when its owner forgets it or needs to replace an old credential. This changes access to one cPanel email account; it does not change the client-area, cPanel administrator or Titan Business Email password.
Before you start
- Have authorized access to the cPanel service that owns the mailbox. Tell the mailbox owner that connected apps may request the new password after the change.
- List the phones, computers and other approved applications using the address so you can update them together and avoid repeated failed sign-ins.
Instructions
Find the correct mailbox
Open Email Accounts in cPanel and locate the complete address. Choose Manage beside that mailbox, rather than beside another team member's account.
Replace the password
In Security, enter a new password or use Generate. Choose a unique credential that meets the displayed strength requirement and store it securely.
Save the change
Select Update Email Settings. Wait for the confirmation before leaving the page. Existing passwords cannot be displayed or recovered through this screen.
Update connected devices
Enter the new password when each mail app requests it. Check both receiving and outgoing SMTP credentials, since an app may store these separately.
Check the result
- Test a fresh webmail sign-in using the full email address and new password. Then send and receive a short message from a connected app.
Troubleshooting
- The old password is still being requested repeatedly
- Close other mail apps temporarily and replace their saved credentials one at a time. Confirm that autofill has not inserted a hosting-account password.
- Webmail works but the desktop app cannot send
- Update that account's outgoing-server credentials too. Keep the server and encryption values from Connect Devices; changing the password does not change those settings.
