Change your cPanel password when replacing a shared password or securing access to your hosting account. This is the hosting control panel password. It is separate from an InterProWebHost client-area password, a WordPress login, and individual mailbox or database-user passwords.
Account Preferences gained password controls in cPanel & WHM 130. The older Password & Security interface may still be available.
Before you start
- Have your current cPanel password available and confirm you can access the account's contact email. If you cannot sign in, use the available recovery process or contact support.
- Prepare a unique password and a secure place to store it. Identify any approved tools that connect using this same cPanel account credential.
Instructions
Open the password settings
Sign in to cPanel. Open Preferences, then Account Preferences and find Change Password. On another layout, search for Password & Security instead.
Enter the requested credentials
Enter the current password where requested. Set a new password and complete the confirmation field if shown. Use Generate or Password Generator if you need a strong unique value.
Save the new password securely
Record the new value in your password manager before submitting. Do not put it in a support ticket or share it in a screenshot.
Apply the change
Choose Save Password in Account Preferences, or Change your password now! in Password & Security. Wait for cPanel's success or validation message.
Test the new login
After a successful change, sign out and sign back in using the new password. Update only the approved tools that actually use this same account credential.
Check the result
- Confirm the new password opens the intended cPanel account.
- Check any tools you updated and remove the old saved password from their settings.
Troubleshooting
- The password is rejected.
- Check the current password, matching confirmation, and the displayed strength requirement. Follow the validation message rather than repeatedly submitting the same values.
- I need to change an email password instead.
- Use Email Accounts and manage the individual mailbox. Changing the cPanel password is not the mailbox password-reset workflow.
