Launch day is exciting, and it is exactly when small mistakes become public. This checklist covers the twelve things to verify before you announce your new website to the world. Work through it in order. It takes about an hour, and it is the difference between a launch and a launch day incident.<\/p>\n

Before you touch anything: back up<\/h2>\n

Take a complete backup of the site as it stands right now. If a last minute change goes wrong, you want a restore point from the finished version, not from three weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Domain and DNS<\/h2>\n

  2. DNS has fully propagated.<\/strong> Check with a propagation tool and confirm the domain resolves correctly from multiple locations. See How Long Does DNS Propagation Take<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  3. www and non-www both work.<\/strong> Type yourbusiness.com and www.yourbusiness.com. Both should load the site, with one redirecting to the other, not an error page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Security<\/h2>\n

    2. WordPress admin is secured.<\/strong> Strong admin password, unique username (not \u201cadmin\u201d), and no unused admin accounts lingering from development.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Email<\/h2>\n

      2. Website forms deliver.<\/strong> Submit every form on the site with a real test entry and confirm the notification email arrives. This is the most commonly skipped check and the most commonly regretted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Content and appearance<\/h2>\n

        1. No placeholder content remains.<\/strong> Search the site for lorem ipsum, \u201cHello world,\u201d and sample pages. Delete or finish all of them.<\/li>\n
        2. Mobile looks right.<\/strong> Open the site on a real phone, not just a resized desktop browser. Check the menu, the forms, and the checkout if you have one. Most of your visitors are on mobile.<\/li>\n
        3. Every link works.<\/strong> Click through the navigation, footer links, and calls to action. Fix or remove anything broken.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Behind the scenes<\/h2>\n

          1. Backups are scheduled.<\/strong> Confirm automatic backups are running, not just the manual one you took this morning.<\/li>\n
          2. Analytics is installed.<\/strong> If you use Google Analytics or similar, verify it is collecting data on the live domain. You cannot recover launch week traffic data retroactively.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            After the checklist: announce with confidence<\/h2>\n

            Once all twelve check out, you are ready. Update your Google Business Profile with the new site, announce it on your social channels, and tell your existing customers. Then keep an eye on things for the first week: check forms, watch for error reports, and confirm backups keep running. Launches are rarely perfect, but a checked launch is never a disaster.<\/p>\n

            Common launch day surprises<\/h2>\n

            A few issues show up on launch day with remarkable regularity. Timezone settings make scheduled posts publish at odd hours. Caching shows visitors the old version of a page you just fixed; clear the cache and check again. Social share previews show the wrong image because the platform cached an early version; most platforms have a debugger tool to refresh it. None of these are emergencies.
